ABOUT

I. Program Overview

The King Car Cultural & Art Center is dedicated to providing emerging artists with a platform for creative development. Based in Chengde Space, this residency program offers artists a versatile working environment while encouraging interaction and exchange with the public. Through the program, we aim to cultivate artistic talent and establish the center as a hub where culture and artistic perspectives converge.

III. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be 20 years of age or older and either:

  • Hold Republic of China (Taiwan) citizenship; or
  • Possess a valid Taiwan Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and work permit.

2. Applications are open to all artistic disciplines and creative practices.
3. Applicants must have basic communication skills in Chinese or English.
 


IV. Residency Details

1. Number of Residencies

  • 2 artists in total
  • One artist will be selected for each residency period.

2. Residency Location

King Car Cultural & Art Center – Chengde Space, Building B, 4F
(No. 131, Sec. 3, Chengde Rd., Datong Dist., Taipei City, Taiwan)

3. Residency Hours

Residents may use the studio during the Center's opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 11:00 AM–6:00 PM
The Center is closed on Mondays and national holidays. Studio access is unavailable outside opening hours.

4. Residency Periods

5. Residency Support

  • Production Grant:NT$50,000 per residency (tax included)
  • Studio Space:Use of the residency studio located on the 4th floor of Building B at the Chengde Space.
  • Equipment:
    • Basic exhibition installation and dismantling tools are available upon request.
    • Artists requiring specialized equipment must provide their own.

6. Resident Artist Commitments

Community Workshop / Artist Talk:Each resident is required to conduct at least one public workshop or artist talk arranged by the organizer to engage the local community and promote arts education.

Residency Exhibition:By the end of the residency, artist will present a solo exhibition featuring work created during the residency period.


V. Application Process

  3. During the application period, click the "APPLY NOW" button on the website, complete the online application form, upload all required documents, and submit your application.
  4. The online application form will open at 11:00 AM on August 1, 2026, and close at 5:00 PM on August 31, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.
  5. Applications are accepted only through the KCCA online application system. Paper submissions and email applications will not be considered.
  6. Applicants must submit the following materials:

  1. The CV, Residency Proposal, and Artwork List must be completed using the official templates before uploading.
     

VI. Selection Process

1. Selection Procedure

Stage One: Document Review

- Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Completeness of application materials
  • Quality and feasibility of the residency proposal
  • Originality of artistic practice

- Incomplete applications, late submissions, or applicants who do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be considered.
- Applicants selected for the second stage will be notified by email by mid-October 2026. Interview arrangements will be communicated via email or telephone.
- Applicants who cannot be reached after two contact attempts by the organizer will be deemed to have withdrawn.


Stage Two: In-Person Interview

Individual interviews will be scheduled in mid-November 2026.

- Applicants unable to attend at the assigned time will be considered to have withdrawn.
- Interviewees should bring:

  • A portfolio of their work
  • A presentation introducing their residency proposal

- Applicants will also respond to questions from the selection committee.

2. Final Results

Final results will be announced on the official website under Announcements by the end of January 2027. Selected applicants will also receive individual notification via email.

3. Selection Policy

The selection process is conducted fairly and objectively. To protect applicants' privacy, committee meetings are closed to the public.


VII. Terms and Conditions

  1. King Car Cultural & Art Center reserves the right to revise these guidelines and retains final interpretation of all program regulations.
  2. Residents must cooperate with temporary studio closures due to exhibitions, internal meetings, natural disasters, or other circumstances.
  3. Applicants with compulsory military service obligations should ensure they are able to complete the residency schedule before applying.
  4. Residents may use the studio only during the Center's opening hours. Access outside opening hours, overnight stays, and after-hours retrieval of personal belongings are not permitted.
  5. The residency studio may not be transferred, subleased, used for unrelated displays, or used for commercial activities unrelated to the approved residency project.

During the Application Stage

  • Applicants who are participating in another residency program, either in Taiwan or abroad, during the same year should disclose this in their application.
  • Applicants requiring assistants (any individual other than the applicant) during the residency must specify this in the residency proposal, including the reason, number of assistants, and their responsibilities.
  • The organizer will not provide additional funding for assistants' salaries, production expenses, transportation, or living costs.

During the Residency

  • Residents must maintain records of their residency activities as required by the organizer.
  • Residency status may be terminated if the resident:
    • Completes less than two-thirds of the agreed residency period;
    • Fails to begin the residency within one week of the official start date;
    • Does not use the studio for one consecutive week without prior notice; or
    • Fails to open the studio to the public during designated hours more than twice without prior approval.
  • To maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all users, only the selected resident artist may occupy the residency space. Family members, companions, or other individuals are not permitted to stay in the studio.
  • Copyright and ownership of artworks created during the residency remain with the artist. However, King Car Cultural & Art Center retains the right to photograph, reproduce, publish, exhibit, promote, and use documentation of the artworks for educational, promotional, publication, website, magazine, and related non-commercial purposes.
